I imagine that lots of people feel this way at the end of December, but I really feel like I got NOTHING done – for the whole month!

Of course, this isn’t entirely true, but I’m certainly feeling some intense frustration at having prioritised present buying, wrapping, giving…food shopping, food shopping and more food shopping over making work.

Positive spin – I DID print some Christmas cards and they were OK, they weren’t my best work, but for a quick-turnaround-oh-god-I-said-I-wouldn’t-do-this-again type of output – they were OK.

I checked in with my neglected studio space a few times, put the heating on, switched on the radio and even cut a bit of lino, but I found it impossible to settle to anything much. Christmas is such a huge distraction.

Good news though, the New Year is on the horizon and I’m the kind of person who loves the fresh energy of a new year. There is the joy of  new calendars and desk planners – oooh those tidy pages, filling in appointments and birthdays with such care and neatness, convincing myself that I will keep it this tidy for the whole year and not resort to scribbled fragments of ideas that care nothing for the weekly layout. And there’s the irrepressible urge to look for signs of Spring, despite the fact that Winter is very definitely here for a while longer.

The whiteboard in my studio has a new covering of plans and ideas for work, some of which I admit are plucked straight from 2024, reinvented in a different colour marker pen and put back on the board like a fresh bud in Spring :))

So, I’m blaming Christmas and I’m ready for a Happy New Year.
